Hi friend!
Do you consider yourself an overachiever?
Here are 5 signs you are an Overachiever:
You have High Standards for Yourself and Others: You go above and beyond what is required. You might find that you are rarely satisfied with your achievements, feeling like you could always do more or better.
You Have Difficulty Relaxing and Taking Breaks: If you struggle to take time off without feeling guilty or anxious about productivity, it’s a strong sign you're an overachiever. You might view relaxation as unproductive or feel restless when you are not working on something.
You Have A Fear of Failure: Overachievers often have a deep-seated fear of failing. This fear can drive relentless work habits as the thought of not meeting expectations (either personal or perceived external expectations) can be paralyzing. This fear might also prevent you from taking risks that could lead to significant growth.
You Have Perfectionism Tendencies: This is closely linked to the fear of failure. If you find that you are obsessing over details, spending excessively long on tasks to make them "perfect," or unable to delegate tasks for fear they won't be done to your standards, these are classic signs of perfectionism common among overachievers.
You Overcommit: Overachievers often struggle to say no to additional responsibilities, leading to packed schedules and chronic stress. You might find yourself juggling multiple projects or commitments, feeling like you need to be involved in every opportunity that comes your way to prove your worth or capabilities.
Do any of these sound like you?
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) tapping is a powerful tool that can help overachievers manage and mitigate some of their common challenges.
Here's how EFT tapping can address each of the signs of being an overachiever:
High Standards for Yourself and Others:
EFT Approach: Tapping can help recalibrate your internal standards, allowing you to appreciate achievements without the constant pressure for more. I would recommend tapping affirmations like, "I forgive myself for believing that I am not doing enough, and I give myself permission to start celebrating all that I am doing & all that I have accomplished now". This process helps to rewire beliefs about self-worth and achievement.
Tap & Affirm: "I forgive myself for believing that I am not doing enough, and I give myself permission to start celebrating all that I am doing & all that I have accomplished now".
Difficulty Relaxing and Taking Breaks:
EFT Approach: Use tapping to address the guilt or anxiety associated with relaxation. By tapping on feelings of restlessness and affirming the value of rest, you can begin to see downtime as not only acceptable but essential for sustained productivity and creativity.
Tap & Affirm: "I honour my body's signals to rest & recuperate"
Fear of Failure:
EFT Approach: Tapping on the fear of failure can be transformative. I would focus on the underlying insecurities driving this fear, using tapping sequences that incorporate positive affirmations like, "I embrace failures as stepping stones to my success." This can reduce the emotional impact of fear and open up space for more courageous decision-making.
Tap & Affirm: "Failure is a part of the process. I give myself permission to embrace failure & accept myself, knowing it is crucial on the path to success."
Perfectionism:
EFT Approach: Perfectionism can be tackled by tapping on the anxiety and compulsive thoughts that fuel it. I recommend tapping on the fear thoughts that are lingering in the back of your mind, helping to lessen the grip of perfectionist tendencies and promote a healthier, more balanced approach to tasks.
Tap & Affirm: "I value progress over perfection"
Overcommitment:
EFT Approach: Overcommitment often stems from a deeper fear of missing out or not living up to your potential. Use tapping to help you explore these feelings, working through them with affirmations like, "I choose my commitments wisely, valuing my time and energy." This can help you learn to prioritize and protect your boundaries more effectively.
Tap & Affirm: "I choose my commitments wisely, I am discerning with where my time & energy goes."
In a one-one session with Me, we can gently shift the subconscious patterns that often drive overachiever behaviours. This process not only addresses the symptoms of stress and anxiety but goes deeper to alter the fundamental beliefs that cause them. Through consistent practice, tapping can lead to significant changes in how you handle pressure, view success, and manage your personal and professional life.
