Ever feel like you have all the resources, information, and strategy you need to succeed, but your success is still not happening? It can be incredibly frustrating to have everything you need and still feel like you're not making progress. The culprit might not be your skills or strategy—it could be your inner child.
What is Inner Child Healing?
Inner Child Healing is a form of therapy that helps you access experiences that happened in your past that are preventing your growth & success today.
How do you access your Inner Child?
There are numerous ways to heal your inner child but my personal favourite is EFT Tapping because it combines the somatic & psychological approach to healing. That means you’re not just talking about what happened in the past, you are releasing the stored trauma in the body associated with it.
Is it scary or uncomfortable?
When done with the right guidance and support, accessing your inner child is incredibly healing and transformative. Things that you’ve felt stuck on suddenly make sense. Your body finally releases and feels free. It’s like the puzzle pieces of your life finally come together and everything clicks.
We’ve all had traumatic past experiences. Some of us had "Big T" traumas (things like abuse, accidents, loss, etc) and some of us have had "Little T" traumas (like losing our favourite stuffed animal as a 3-year old). The body stores the unprocessed feelings and emotions in our nervous system. Tapping is a safe, fast, and effective way to access those past experiences and let them go.
Depending on the support you had a the time of a traumatic event, the personal healing work you’ve done, and the current state of the nervous system the process of releasing it will vary.
People that work with me on healing their inner child are always left feeling a sense of relief, peace and clarity. Tapping has the incredible ability to help us shift and heal quickly.
How do I know if I need it?
1) You're Repeating Unwanted Or Negative Patterns
Here are some signs that your inner child might need healing:
Self-Sabotage: You find yourself procrastinating, quitting projects, or undermining your own efforts just as you're about to succeed.
Toxic Relationships: You keep ending up in relationships that drain you or are emotionally unhealthy, distracting you from your goals.
Avoidance Behaviours: You avoid difficult tasks or situations that could lead to growth because you're afraid of conflict or failure.
Negative Self-Talk: Your inner critic constantly tells you that you're not good enough or that you'll never succeed.
Perfectionism: You set impossibly high standards for yourself, leading to stress, dissatisfaction, and burnout.
Overgiving: You prioritize others' needs over your own, neglecting your well-being and feeling resentment.
Fear of Success: You hold yourself back from pursuing opportunities or stepping into your full potential due to fear of success and the changes it might bring.
People-Pleasing: You seek approval from others and say yes to everything, even at the expense of your own needs and boundaries.
Blame and Victim Mentality: You often blame others for your problems or feel like a victim of circumstances, preventing you from taking responsibility and making positive changes.
2. You Experience Overwhelming Self-Criticism
No matter how much you achieve, you struggle with an inner voice that constantly puts you down or questions your worth? This inner critic is often the echo of unmet childhood needs and negative messages received during formative years. Inner child healing allows you to nurture that younger version of yourself, transforming harsh self-criticism into self-compassion and acceptance. By addressing these deep-seated beliefs, you can build a stronger sense of self-worth and confidence.
Example: Imagine Jane, a successful professional who constantly feels inadequate despite her achievements. As a child, Jane’s parents often compared her to her siblings, emphasizing her shortcomings. These comparisons instilled a belief that she was never enough, and this belief morphed into an internal critic that scrutinizes every aspect of her life.
Through inner child healing, Jane identifies these early experiences and understands their impact on her self-esteem. She begins to nurture her inner child by acknowledging her feelings and providing the encouragement she needed back then through Tapping. Jane practises self-compassion, gradually transforming her inner critic into a supportive inner voice. Over time, she notices a significant improvement in her confidence and overall sense of self-worth.
3) Difficulty Trusting Others or Yourself
Do you have great ideas but struggle to trust yourself & take action?
Trust issues often arise from childhood experiences where safety and reliability were compromised. If your inner child felt neglected, betrayed, or unsupported, these feelings can persist into adulthood, making it hard to form trusting relationships. Healing your inner child can help you rebuild trust and establish more secure connections with others and with your own instincts.
Example : Consider Alex, who struggles with trusting others at work and in personal relationships. Growing up, Alex’s parents frequently made promises they didn’t keep, and there was often a lack of emotional support. These experiences led Alex to develop a belief that people are inherently unreliable and that trusting others would lead to disappointment.
Through inner child healing, Alex identifies these formative experiences and begins to address the lingering emotional wounds. By acknowledging the pain of past betrayals and reframing the belief to “I can find people who are reliable and supportive,” Alex starts to open up more in relationships. Practicing self-trust by setting small goals and achieving them further reinforces the belief that Alex can rely on personal instincts and judgments.
As Alex continues this healing journey, trust issues diminish, making it easier to form secure, supportive connections both personally and professionally.
